According to target 8.E set under the Millennium Development Goals, access to affordable essential medicines in developing countries shall be provided "in cooperation with pharmaceutical companies". However, even if some progress has been achieved in recent years, the MDG Gap Task Force Report 2014 states, that "despite more coordination in implementing coherent national policies aligned to global agreements, essential medicines remain unaffordable and insufficiently available in developing countries" and that "in order to enhance and expand accessibility, greater efforts by the international community, pharmaceutical companies and Governments are still needed." This Master`s thesis provides an overview of regulatory aspects which could be approached for enhancing global access to high-quality essential medicines by the cooperation and measures of international organizations, national authorities and pharmaceutical companies. Moreover, it offers a more integrated view to the problem of access to medicines.
